Spirit Houses
A spirit house is a shrine for the spirits who can cause problems for the people if not satisfied. They can be small houses or large enough for people to enter. These house include images, statues with offerings left as a way to calm the spirits. Most houses and businesses have spirit houses in well-placed spots, often in exclusive rooms. Their location is preferably in front of a tree and should not be on the left side of a door or facing a toilet or a road. Locations are often chosen after intense consultation with a Brahmin priest. A spirit house can’t be disposed of by throwing it away. It must be taken to a suitable location and left to rest in the company of other spirit houses. One of the best-known spirit houses is the San Phra Phrom, known as the Erawan Phra Phrom since it is located on the grounds of the Erawan Hotel in Bangkok.
