Sydney McLaughlin

Sydney McLaughlin is an American world record holder in the 400-meter hurdles and first woman to break the 52s mark in the 400m hurdles. Sydney took up running very early. At the age of 17 she was on the cover of Sports Illustrated "ranks as one of the most dominant high school athletes ever." In 2018, she turned professional and signed a sponsorship deal with New Balance at an estimated $1.5 million annual base pay. Sydney knows “there is always room to improve” and promises to push the boundaries in her sport. She mentioned that she has already discussed with her team the possibility that she will compete in future world competitions in other events, like the 400 meters, sans hurdles. “Anything is possible,” she said. Edwin Moses, former American gold medalist hurdler said, “There’s never been a weapon as strong as she is.”
