Helen Blavatsky

Helen Blavatsky believed in the occult, astral travel, and paranormal realities. At an early age, her mother and father made sure that she had an education complete in French, art, and music. When forced to marry Nikifor Blavatsky she run away by boarding a ship to Constantinople. While traveling she met the "mysterious Indian" man who had always appeared in her childhood dreams, referring to him as Master Morya, who she claimed had a special assignment for her. She claimed that Morya helped her develop and control her psychic powers, improve her telepathy, and project her astral body.

In 1874, she met the reporter Henry Olcott and with his help they created the Miracle Club. It was through this club that they met William Quan Judge, who shared many of their psychic interests. At a Miracle Club, Blavatsky, Olcott, and Judge established an esoteric organization called the Theosophical Society. She began working on her first book,” Isis Unveiled” outlining her Theosophical worldview.

Settling in Naples in 1885, she began work on her next book, “The Secret Doctrine.” In this book, Blavatsky outlined her own ideas about the universe, the planets, and how the human species came to existence. She discussed being human, the concept of soul, and matters involving the afterlife.  She said that the theosophical teachings were given to her by adepts, who lived in various parts of the world. The underlying concept behind her work was to reveal the existence of an "ancient wisdom", known by many communities across the globe. She states, “the universe emanated from this Divine Principle, with each particle of matter being infused with a spark of the divine. Before the soul can see, harmony within must be attained, and fleshly eyes be rendered blind to all illusion.”
