Word Game: Race to 52

Directions

Objective:

Accumulate 52 points by creating words using letter pairs

Game Setup

  • Materials: Two dice and a Grid
  • Players: Individuals, Partners or Teams
  • Goal: Reach a total of 52 points
  • Points: Letters in words created

Playing Instructions

  1. Rolling: Roll two dice. The first die indicates the row number and the second die indicates the column number.
  1. Selecting Letters
  • Non-Doubles: If the dice show different numbers (ex., 3 and 4), there are two possible grid locations to choose from. One can select the letter pair from Row 3, Column 4 (PZ) OR Row 4, Column 3 (UE).
  • Doubles: If the dice shows a double (ex., 3 and 3), the team has only one grid location to choose from. For a roll of 3, 3, they must use the letters in Row 3, Column 3 (OY).
  1. Creating Words: After selecting a letter pair, you must create one valid English word that contains both letters. The two letters may appear anywhere in the word and do not have to be adjacent. There’s a 30 second time limit. If played as teams, play passes to the next team.
  1. Scoring: Each word is scored by adding the point values of the letters used. For example, "Flood" would be worth 5 points.
  1. Winning: The game ends immediately when a total of 52 points is reached.
